Andy is an acoustic and electric jazz guitarist who plays both lead and rhythm. Andy is a founding member of the Bright Stars of Jazz, which has its roots based in Chicago and New Orleans Jazz. He leads gypsy jazz project La Bouche Manouche playing tunes in the Hot Club style with a repertoire based around good swingtime jazz and French cafe music. Andy also plays in modern jazz outfits including ska and bebop based bands. In addition to larger bands, he also enjoys duo and trio work, and performs with a number of different horn players and singers. Andy works regularly as a rhythm and lead guitarist and is interested in playing jazz in a variety of different outfits.
Experience in leading guitar workshops and teaching in group situations; one-to-one tuition and guitar workshops; currently gives one-to-one tuition in Jazz Guitar based at his home in St Albans. He has performed in and facilitated schools-based jazz workshops nationwide promoting early jazz to children and teenagers with The Brightstars of Jazz and Girl Plays Jazz.
Andy's has several recordings with La Bouche Manouche featuring the wonderful vocalist Irener Serra, a swinging Gypsy Jazz band in the style of the great Quintette du Hot Club de France. Click here to hear the music.
